Advantages and Drawbacks of Online Education

It was all well before the pandemic came in our lives and crashed all our plans for future. One of the biggest hunts for this pandemic was the school-going children because they were going to witness a huge change in their education. Though the trend of online education is not that new to the world, it is still something that students weren’t prepared for. Shifting to an online learning platform was the only solution that came in handy during the pandemic. But there are significant ups and downs of online education as students have to sit for endless hours before their electronic devices. Let us have a look at some advantages and disadvantages of online education-

Advantages of online education

No loss of education: With the help of online mode, students are still given the opportunity to keep up with their education during the pandemic. Though schools were shut down physically, classes continued on online platforms. Various online learning platforms like Zoom meetings, Google Classroom, and Google meet soon caught us all up.

A new way of teaching: Teachers too came up with new techniques of teaching to help students engage better in online classes. This way, it has helped both students and teachers learn something good from this pandemic without losing a whole year of education. These new ways of learning are very helpful and might continue till the pandemic lasts.

Disadvantages of online education

Accessibility issues: Not all families can afford separate phones or laptops for children to continue with their online study. It has become very difficult for working parents to tackle with such issues. With no jobs, many of them are not able to afford a stable internet connection for their children to complete their classes at home.

Health problems: Endless screen time needs to be restricted as it causes a lot of damage to the eyes of young children.

Mental stress: Online education and learning have almost killed the fun students used to have at school. Earlier, stress and homework could be balanced with other co-curricular activities. But with online learning, all that is left is just the stress and pressure of academics that students have to face.

Lack of physical exercises: Earlier, when students used to go to school, they had sports and physical education periods. But in this pandemic, all this has vanished. Students today are always seen sitting in front of laptops and mobile screens.

At last, we would like to say that online education is here to stay until the pandemic lasts. All we can do is wait for it to get over. We can still say that online education has helped the students a lot in a great way.
