How to write paragraphs?

A paragraph is not just simply about placing a few sentences together, but it is, in fact, an idea about some common belief or point that is often portrayed in the form of sentences. The main purpose of paragraph is to provide small bits for a long piece of writing. Each of these small bits or paragraphs revolves around the main point and discuss about it deeply.

Each of the paragraphs in an essay has its own point of discussion while they are also connected to other paragraphs to portray the meaning of the topic. This provides a sequence and a logical structure to the essay and makes a complete sense of the content.

Parts of paragraph
A paragraph generally consists of three parts-
·         Topic sentence (the introduction)
·         Body (two or three points)
·         Summary sentence (ending lines)

The topic sentence
A good paragraph usually introduces its reader with the topic or main point. The purpose of the topic sentence is to connect the introduction part with the previous or upcoming paragraphs.

Body
After writing about the topic sentence, now you need to focus on the other points that highlight their perspective for the main idea. These sentences support the idea of the topic sentence with the help of arguments, examples, and evidence. However, when you provide such evidence or example, you also need to cite sources for the same.

Summary sentence
This is considered to be an extra sentence that comes under the category of being optional. If you include this in your essay, then you need to summarize the main points mentioned above. It concludes the whole idea of the main point.

Types of Paragraphs
Academic essays or assignments have three basic types of paragraphs; these include introductory paragraphs, body paragraphs, and concluding paragraphs.

Introductory paragraph: The beginning of the paragraph provides you the orientation of the topic. It usually tells the reader what is going to take place in the essay and what all get included in it. The introductory paragraph is also sometimes termed as the thesis statement.

Body paragraph: The body paragraph simply talks about the main point, and the ideas revolving around it. It should be able to connect with the introduction paragraph or any of the previously mentioned paragraphs.

Concluding paragraph: This part tells the reader what the essay or assignment has been about. It helps you to summarize the topic and provides some of the salient features of the main point. It is used to bond the essay together and links both the introduction and conclusion part.
